Abdelouahab Moualek Arrested

Abdelouahab Moualek–A Kabyle citizen–was arrested today and taken to  custody  by the Sidi Aich (Vegayeth) police department.

Mr. Moualek has been a Democratic activist and human rights defender for more than 30 years.

He manages an online news media: Bejaia06.com, and he’s a member of the humanitarian movement of Vegayeth.

Mr. Moualek has been  harassed relentlessly by the Algerian judicial system. He was prosecuted and tried in 10 different cases, he accumulated convictions ranging from 3 months suspended prison to 18 months in prison, including fines for each judicial verdict.

He was indicted for the following charges:

1.     incitement to unarmed grouping;

2.     publications that may undermine national; unity

3.     incitement to reject elections.

KHR organization is worried about  muzzling freedom of information and association in Algeria ( Kabylia). It calls for the immediate liberation of Mr.Moualek
