Mira Moknache, a proud Kabylian woman, a university lecturer and staunch human rights activist, was arbitrarily arrested on July 8, 2024, at her home in El-Kseur, at Béjaïa province (Kabylia).
She faces spurious charges under Article 87 bis–a controversial and criticized law by human rights organizations and democratic states– for threatening national unity and hindering the visit of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
On July 18, 2024, she was remanded by the investigating judge at the Sidi Mhamed court in Algiers. She has been awaiting her trial for 8 months.
