(Washington D.C.) – KHR organization has been sounding the alarm for years about the abuses of the Algerian regime and the consequences of its policy towards the Kabyle people. One of them is the Unilateral Declaration of Independence of Kabylia, which will take place on December 14 in Paris.

The boomrang effect of the fierce repression of the Algerian State against the Kabyle people was to be expected. That is the Unilateral Declaration of Independence of Kabylia. Its basis is the right to self-determination held by all peoples, as affirmed in several instruments of international law. These include:

Article 1(2) of the Charter of the United Nations, which states that one of the purposes of the UN is to promote “respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples”;

Common Article 1 of the 1966 International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights and on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICCPR and ICESCR), which declares that “all peoples have the right to self-determination”;

▪ The Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Co-operation among States (the “Friendly Relations Declaration”, 1970), which confirms this right for all peoples.

KHR organization welcomes this event that restores justice and wishes best of luck to the future Kabyle State!
