Algeria’s repression didn’t even save defense’s attorneys

Sofiane Ouali, a defense attorney, who defends human rights activists in Kabylia is being harassed again by the Algerian judiciary system which is under total control of the military's junta.  

Today, 28th January 2025, in a Facebook post, he stated, “Tomorrow morning, 29th January 2025, myself Sofiane Ouali, Esq., a human rights defense attorney in Algeria, I will be heard deeply before Sidi Mehmed’s Court by an investigating judge regarding the case of the detained Mira Mokanache and others”.

He ended his post by quoting Nelson Mandela, “Human rights are not a gift, but a conquest. They’re not a privilege, but a necessity. They’re not a favor, but a right”.
