KHR organization strongly condemns the arrest and sentencing of peaceful humanitarian activist Wafia Tidjani to 5 years in prison by the  Algerian authorities.

Humanitarian work and the defense of fundamental rights are not crimes. Sentencing Wafia Tidjani to 5 years for her peaceful and compassionate action violates freedoms of expression and association, which are guaranteed by the Algerian Constitution and by international conventions ratified by Algeria.

We call for her immediate and unconditional release, and urge the Algerian authorities to overturn this unjust sentence and uphold their human rights commitments.

Solidarity is not a threat: it is a value that honors any society.
